The Basis is a NAIO™ introductory module that lays out the foundational aspects of the NAIO™ holistic awareness process for participants. It serves as a prerequisite for taking further modules and for entering the NAIO™ Practitioner Training and Certification Path.
NAIO™ was developed by Prue Jeffries, a professional surfer, artist, educator and therapeutic guide. She spent life in the water as a surfer and water-person, immersed in the ocean and natural world. From young, Prue kept alive her openness to creativity and the transpersonal, her personal experiences inspired her to delve into existentialism, philosophy, phenomenology, metaphysics and more. As one of the world’s best professional surfers, she created an experiential and multi-field approach inspired by personal,
mainstream, and holistic influences for wellness and performance. NAIO™ originated from her personal approach to supporting people informed by water, the body, and nature, and refined by ongoing studies and teaching in
well-being approaches over the last 30 years.
The NAIO™ process has been further informed by somatic, meditation and focus practices. Also, advances in neurobiology and biophysics, psychology, physics, philosophy. As an evolving process today, it can support resolution of conditional patterns, with the integration of personal and bodily awareness, life awareness and overall feelings of interconnection, self regulation and well-being.
In this module, we learn about the origins and development of NAIO™. There is an introduction to the foundational theories and embodied experience of NAIO™ and how this applies in developing a practice as a somatic educator and health care practitioner.
Module Objective
On completion of the Basis module, participants will summarize and relay the philosophical basis, meta-themes, history and development of NAIO™. They will demonstrate a knowledge of and ability for being in Open Awareness that includes developing their capacities for settling, centering and self-regulation. They will begin to orientate to an internal sense of wholeness, and innate fluidity. Embodying a connection with Open Order, the ordering matrix of
life.
Training participants will learn to establish a compassionate and safe container of relationship for working with clients, which includes building skills of self-reflection and concepts of listening, relationship, body to body resonance, being to being and gentle listening touch.
Participants will grow a sensory capacity based on touch, perception, and bodily awareness of the polyrhythmic movements of life. They will have a basic understanding of felt-sense perception and its biological basis. Using somatic education principles and awareness practices, concepts will be grounded in latest understandings in anatomy and physiology, biology, physics and neuroscience.
The Basis module can be taken to enhance participants skills who work in related fields such as somatics, psychology, bodywork, massage, meditation, and care-giving professions. It serves as the prerequisite module and preparation for entering the NAIO™ Practitioner Training Path conducted by NAIO™ International.
